Greetings, gentle reader, and welcome to juddspicer.com. I'm Judd, a veteran writer from Saint Paul, Minnesota. After 12 years of writing from the Twin Cities, I've been based out of Palm Desert, Calif. since 2011.

As a professional freelance writer since 1999, I have tackled myriad projects in various formats including book publishing, playwriting, web columns, newspaper stringing and, most notably, freelance writing jobs. In the last sixteen years, my work has appeared in the pages, or upon the websites of: ESPN.com, Golf Channel, Minnesota Law & Politics Magazine, Super Lawyers, WorldGolf.com, Tee Times Minnesota Golf & Living, Minnesota Magazine (University of Minnesota), Edible Twin Cities, Whistling Shade, Gameday Baseball Program, Dr. Stats.com, Seconds Out Boxing Promotions, SLAM.com, Max Boxing, Fantasy Football Champs, Palm Springs Life publications, Desert Golf MagazineThe Desert Sun newspaper, Heavy Table.com, NCAA.com, Pebble Beach -- The Magazine, FORE Magazine, Greater Palm Springs CVB, Southland Golf Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Pulse of the Twin Cities, Minnesota Monthly, and Mpls./St. Paul Magazine among many others. The Wall Street Journal online has thrice linked to my work, with one piece appearing in the "Numbers Guy" column and two articles referenced in "The Daily Fix."

From 2008 - 2011, I was the sportswriter for the CityPages.com, the Twin Cities' leading alt-weekly and a key member of the Village Voice Media family. To read my archived writings, please click here.

The tenets I exercise toward my trade are both simple, and earnest:

To Inform. To Entertain. And to achieve said high standards in an Intelligent way.

I maintain something of an old-fashioned approach toward my work, however, in recent years, I have recognized and realized that I would remiss in not further embracing and understanding the electronic medium -- such is the onus for this site.

As the pages herein will exhibit, my writing work is diverse. Based on hundreds of published works, I consider myself an expert in the areas of:

  • Sportswriting
  • Profile and Feature Writing
  • Conducting Interviews
  • Research
More specifically, I have penned over 800 published pieces that have found me interviewing a wide range of people inhabiting various stratum of our human spectrum, including:
  • Professional MLB, NBA, NFL, PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour, NCAA and Olympic athletes, coaches, and officials
  • Internationally renowned attorneys
  • Celebrated chefs, Wine experts and farmers
  • Ice Cream Men
  • Convicted murderers, cheats, petty thieves, felons
  • Life Coaches
  • Naturists
  • Internet mavericks
  • Stadium architects
  • Horse Racing Announcers
  • Accountants
  • Actors
  • Government agencies
  • College and high school jocks and coaches
  • Golf course designers
  • Noted sport photographers

I've readily placed myself in both harm's way, and along the path of knowledge and adventure, and it's made me a writer that is seasoned to accept a wealth of challenges, opportunities, and new subjects.

In all relationships, I maintain a strict highest-common-denominator approach toward communication. That said: should you have a writing project of any size, genre, or medium that you are looking to assign, polish or publish -- Please contact me. I promise that I will reply in a very prompt fashion, just as I ensure that your writing job will be met with a fair asking price.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this space. To learn more about my life and my writings, please feel free to peruse the various pages herein.

As always -- Be Well.
